Ha! It is a good sign that companies can use Clojure at such level and not have to talk about Clojure in their demos. A sign of maturity for Clojure?

LonoCloud's demo video doesn't show the actual source code behind the demo, but it is implemented primarily in Clojure with some Javascript, and uses Noir and Pallet for serving the webapp portion and cloud provisioning, respectively.

The main takeaway from my "Prelude" post wasn't meant to be the switch (of one small part of our system) from Scala to Clojure but the suitability of Clojure as a general purpose language for our platform's backend. We have about 71,000 lines of CFML, we had about 1,000 lines of Scala (which we replaced with Clojure) and we're up to about 3,000 lines of Clojure now. A lot of that 71,000 lines is display templates (~30,000 lines) which won't change over.

Anon: You're right, it isn't a technical argument. But nor is it completely personal. My post was so long because I was trying to do several things. But a key part is this:

"But when a community adopts purity, simplicity, and asceticism as core tenets—ones approaching matters of morality—you can end up with a community that makes things unpleasant for not just the impure and hedonistic, but also for just plain normal people. And they will go elsewhere."

I've seen more than one community go that route. You can certainly argue that Agile flirted with that in the early days. So did TDD advocates.

The Clojure community seems to me a weird mix of the extremely helpful and the dismissive. I'm suggesting a different tone that's more inviting to a broader group of people. I'm also suggesting that tone is a "real thing" - it influences decisions like the language design and allocation of clojure/core time. And those things can in turn reinforce the tone by (for example) attracting certain types of people. And so round-and-round you (can) go.

The feedback loop can narrow the language and its community into a niche. But a feedback loop can also be a positive one that keeps pushing the language into broader use.

I'm saying that Clojure's current tone is one for a niche language. I want a broader language. As a new business owner, I don't want to invest heavily in the former. I would in the latter.

Re marick drama: It's ironic if not hypocritical to complain about tone with rhetoric that causes such an emotional reaction.

I think Marick associated himself too much with the idea of TDD and his ego got hurt when Hickey said something opposing it.

Last year they were made available at <a href="http://www.infoq.com/" rel="nofollow">InfoQ</a> and not sure if elsewhere.

Kind regards,

I added the "and Clojure" part in Wikipedia. It took me several tries over the years as it got reverted again and again.

Wikipedians won't let you exercise common sense and express common knowledge without proper procedure.

So, I wouldn't worry about the ordering as much as I now worry that your blog post will bring scrutiny again to that uncited statement.

It appears to me that the concerns expressed about maps could be fixed by using contains? instead of nil?

:)

But, I know some that do, or at least prefer to not touch the mouse, since it is quite a disruptive hand and arm movement.

I myself use the trackpad when on my laptop, but if I can learn the keyboard shortcut, I try to do so. When I use a desktop computer with a mouse I feel like I waste a lot of time with the mouse.

Nevertheless, I use the mouse/trackpad when I browse the web, not sure why.

No complaints about the new format yet, so I guess it's staying...

One minor correction: I don't suffer from musophobia; on the contrary I enjoy every minute of it. =)

Thanks!

Using some part of the tweet text to link is a good idea. Most browsers support typing some text to search for links. Eg. Firefox is '. For Safari there is a plugin, which allows something similar. From the post above, I could just type "natural" and hit enter to go to the Heroku story. If every link was named "here", this wouldn't work.
